Stuck, Can’t seem to progress any further?

Hey,

Everyone hits a low point when training sometimes. For me, I sometimes feel like i’m not progressing, not getting better, and in some cases, even getting worse. I try to do the following when this happens.

1. Get back to the basics – Request to work with lower belts. Work on the fundamental skills that are necessary for all or most techniques like footwork. The skills in the lower belts are designed to teach you the basics and give you a stepping stone for future more complex techniques, so practicing them is good for you.

2. Work on something else – try to work on separate skills related to that belt. Sometimes just taking a break from the stuff that’s not working is good for you.

3. Ask someone for help – make sure you ask at least 2 different people. Everyone’s body type is different so when an instructor is teaching something it might work for them but not you. Find someone who knows what their doing and ask them, get a second opinion and it might help you out.

4. Take a Break – the sloppyness might be your body telling you that you’re working too hard. I once took a one week break, and all the sloppyness disappeared.
