When someone has a knife, you’re gonna get cut. It’s obvious; always remember these 5 points and it should help with your technique.
5. Always have your palms facing you when protecting yourself. If you should the attacker your palms you’re going to get slit in the wrist.
4. Once you get a hold of your opponents hand (the one with the knife), it’s yours do not let go.
3. He may have a knife, but you have 2 lead pipes (your forearms) use them
2. Never kick a guy who knows how to handle a knife you’re going to get cut badly.
1. Run Away if you can.

Multiple Opponent Combat is a regular occurrence nowadays. Here are some simple guidelines to ensure survival of one of these encounters.
1. Always try to run away, and draw attention to yourself. Don’t be a hero they outnumber you.
2. If you can, stay on your feet. The moment you start a ground battle they will swarm you and you’ll get kicked and stomped on.
3. If a fight is on, engage the largest (or the alpha) as fast and as hard as you can. This will open the eyes of the rest of the brood and make them think.
4. Keep the fighting short and sweet. Shouldn’t engage anyone for more than 3-5 seconds. Ever. Anything longer and they’re gonna grab you and hold you.
5. Keep your feet moving and think escape not fight.
That’s all for now. Enjoy.
admin Self Defense Tip of the Week
Your opponent is bigger and stronger than you. How do you level the playing field? You can’t. No matter what they will still be bigger and they will still be stronger. Unfortunately for us little guys, that is the reality. However, fighting someone bigger then you is not the end of the world; here are some tips that will maximize your effectiveness when fighting someone larger and stronger.
1. Stay within your power range. Punching distance for a big guy usually equates to kicking distance for a small guy. Last time i checked, I can kick harder than someone punching.
2. Small Joint Manipulation is great against big people. It might not stop them completely but it will get them thinking. Personally, the best small joints are fingers, thumbs, and wrists.
3. Use psychological warfare on them. Kiss them, tell them you love them, lick them, or even try to rip their ear off and throw it back at them. Do whatever it takes to get them thinking about something other than beating the crap out of you.
4. Use whatever you have in your purse or pockets as a weapon. I like my blackberry cause it’s big and heavy, like a brick (I don’t check my email on it). Keys are always good to carry around with you as well. Even pens become effective at stabbing if enough force is used. Ever see a straw in a potato?
Enjoy!

This week in random attack there was a technique that i just wasn’t able to apply the first two times and i thought to myself, in a static situation, the technique works wonderfully. SO WHY ISN’T THE DAMN MOVE WORKING NOW?!?! and It hit me (not just my opponents fist but an idea!) the attacker was a couple degree’s off to the side and the technique i was trying was a very fine (motor movement) technique where everything needed to be in line for it to work (MILES likes to call this the MAGIC “L”). So all i did was move my body very slightly and everything fit into place.
This weeks drill/tip is to try one or two techniques that are a very familiar and practical that works for you and try it on both sides with your opponent/partner attacking at 10,20,30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 degree’s beside you. And try to pick up what subtle adjustments you have to make (if any some techniques work fine without those corrections) to make the move work for you. When you’re done that, also that it in the Y direction (if it’s a wrist grab try to have your opponent grab you higher and lower). The point is to
familiarize yourself with techniques that work for you no matter where the opponent gets you.

“OMG THIS MOVE WORKS”
Today I was dabbling at a throw from Miles Red Belt (off a single wrist grab) and it never seemed to work for me ever until i adapted it to come from a punch and let me say, it is probably the most likely throw i would ever use in a real life situation against a COMMITTED punch.
So THE TIP of the WEEK is when you’re learning a technique that seems stupid, useless, or impractical, don’t be discouraged; that questionable move will either creep up on you somewhere else (where it is practical) or it is a intermediary move where it will teach you the basics to something that is practical.
